How to Mount Your MESI Piece to a Wall
Follow these simple steps to securely mount your handcrafted item while ensuring perfect placement.
-
Prepare the Template:
- Place a sheet of paper on the back of your item, covering the keyhole slots.
- Use a pencil to mark the top of the thin portion of each keyhole slot.
- If the keyhole slots are horizontal, mark the thin far side of each slot.
-
Position the Template on the Wall:
- Tape the marked paper onto your wall, ensuring the markings are level (use a level for accuracy).
-
Mark the Wall:
- Use the pointed end of a screw to press small marks on the wall where the keyhole slot positions are indicated.
-
Drill Pilot Holes:
- Using a drill with a thin drill bit, create pilot holes at the marked positions.
-
Determine Anchors or Screws:
- If the drill bit comes out white (indicating drywall):
- Use a slightly larger drill bit to create holes for wall anchors.
- Insert the wall anchors into the holes.
- If the drill bit comes out brown (indicating wood):
- Skip the anchors and proceed with screws directly into the wall.
- If the drill bit comes out white (indicating drywall):
-
Install the Screws:
- Screw the screws (or screws with anchors) into the wall, leaving approximately 1/8” of the screw head protruding.
- For keyhole mounts, adjust the screws further if the item “rocks” after mounting.
-
Mount Your Item:
- Align the keyhole slots with the screws and hang your item securely.
- Step back and admire your work!
